Based upon a rating of 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest I would rate the Good News Bible 10.

POSITIVES/PROS:

The Good News Bible was first published by the American Bible Society in 1966.The Good News Bible is used by many Christian Denominations. This Bible is written in a style called “Dynamic Equivalence” which means the meaning of the Hebrew and Greek is translated “thought for thought” instead of “word for word”.

It was written because of a need in Africa and the Far East for a version of the Bible that was friendly to non native English readers.

By 1969 it had sold 17.5 million copes and by 1971 30 million. The Good News Bible has been endorsed by Billy Graham and he used many excerpts form it in his evangelistic crusades from the late 1960’s through the early 1980’s it also been endorsed by several Christian Denominations, including the Catholic Church. In 2003 the Good News Bible was used as the basis for a film called the Gospel of John.

The Good News Bible is written in simple everyday language, with the intention that everyone can appreciate it, and so is often considered suitable for children and for those learning English. There are introductions to each book of the Bible.Unlike other translations, the Good News Bible contains line drawings of biblical events with  a snippet of text.Since the focus is strongly on east of understanding, poetry is sometimes sacrificed for clarity.

NEGATIVES/CONS

The Good News Bible’s focus is being easy to read. It is not focused on being a Comprehensive Study Bible with a lot of Study Aids,Maps,Concordance and Dictionaries. No Bible can offer everything to everyone.Every Bible has a focus.

Conclusion:

If you are just looking for a Bible that is easy to read the Good News Bible is an excellent choice.
